Aric Almirola, a native of Tampa, Florida, who drives the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Fusion for Stewart-Haas Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, spoke to students at Pierce Middle School in Tampa on Tuesday. Almirola also competed against Principal Pablo Gallego and select students in a tricycle race inside the school’s gymnasium.
This was the race before the race, as Almirola will compete in the 60th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Almirola brought the Harley J. Earl trophy to the students, which is bestowed to the winner of the Daytona 500. Almirola is a two-time winner at Daytona, but he is seeking his first Daytona 500 victory on Sunday. The Daytona 500 starts at 2:30 p.m. EST with live coverage provided by FOX beginning with its pre-race show at 1 p.m.
