Ace Ghanaian TV and Radio personality; Kwame Dzokoto also known in showbiz as ‘Edziban’ made a shocking revelation on Pluzz 89.9 fm, an Accra based radio station on the ‘AM Pluzz show’ over the week.
Kwame Dzokoto was called on phone as a resource person to throw more light on the level of creativity in the current trend of TV commercials in Ghana. And his submission revealed that the food and drugs Board (FDB) had barred him from featuring in alcoholic beverage commercials, the reason for which his fans no longer see him featuring in such commercials. ‘I must tell you I have been banned by the Food and Drugs Board not to do any liquor advertisement again’.
Asked why such a ban was placed on him, the host of TV3’s ‘Edziban’ show and the General Manager of Pluzz Fm explained that the Food and Drugs Board claims a greater percentage of his fans are children and they stand a high risk of being lured into alcoholism as a result of the influence he has on them. ‘they say I have kids who are my followers and I will teach kids how to drink and because of that they should seize me out of job’.
When asked by the host – Sammy Flex, whether he would take any legal actions against FDB, the popular tv actor and model answered in the negative. ‘I wanted to test the law but errm.. I also… for sure its a positive thing but then …I think I don’t like this litigation thing so I decided to let it go.’
So as it stands now, Kwame Dzokoto has been thrown out of job as far as featuring in alcoholic berverage commercials is concerned. The big question then is, is it really within the domain of Ghana food and drugs board to decide the kind of characters to feature in TV commercials of alcoholic products?
