Legendary singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Phil Collins,64, has stirred up an online petition after announcing last week that he’s staging a comeback from retirement.
The ‘Against All Odds’ singer, who released his last song Testify in 2002, announced his retirement in 2011 but has said in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine he intends to go back into the studio. Talking about his reasons for a comeback he said: “My kids are now 10 and 14 and they want to see what their dad does. They were in nappies when I was last on the road. They love my music and I’d like to take them out so they can enjoy it.”
This move hasn’t gone down well with some fans who have started an online petition on change.org requesting the UN to intervene in the matter if the singer goes back into the studio. The petition, which appears to be gathering support now has some 3,481 supporters, and the petition reads: ‘Phil Collins has announced he is no longer in retirement. There is far too much suffering in the world as it. This must be stopped.’
In the face of this online petition, however, some fans have welcomed the singer’s return with some of them writing: ‘If you’ve ever air drummed to “In the air tonight”, belted out “Su, Su, Sudio!”, you’re a Phil Collins fan. One of the most soulful singers of our time, whose body refused to let him play or sing anymore, has persevered through massive rehab to get back to his first love, music. Let’s welcome back with open arms!
